THE BLOGGERIE (Ravings and Cravings)

What is a Bloggerie?
For me, a classroom where the didactic finger waggles.

"The time has come," the Walrus said,
"To talk of many things:
Of shoes—and ships—and sealing wax—
Of cabbages—and kings —
And why the sea is boiling hot—
And whether pigs have wings." (Carroll)

"Bloggerie"? I made it up, analogous to boucherie (meat market [butchery], carnage), or, boulangerie (bakery). It is a place on the world-wide web where I log and explicate some of the categories of my awareness.

And with what motive? See the picture above.

Why do I fancy myself a teacher? I am retired. But I still have dreams of teaching. Dreams in which I do it better. Here, the old teacher continues to lecture. Ugh! Bad word. Not my style.

I enjoyed immensely the micro-inductive process. For example, I would have the students write on the board any word that came to mind on the subject of "communication". They might come up with fifty words in columns of bunches. Then I would have them group the words as I manned the chalk (without evaluating or bending their choices, but perhaps only a brief questioning). They would, in effect, be developing categories as collections of concepts. Then they would arrange the concepts. They would thus "discover" the concepts I wanted them to attain. Some call that result an advance organizer. (Orienteering?)

Regarding my present fancy, my writing was ancillary to teaching. But now, a writer? a librettist? a playwright? an author? Self-styled. I have written two plays-libretti, but I cannot call myself a writer because I have neither been read nor produced. Having written does not a writer make. In spite of that, however, I believe my writing is good to very good and, therefore, the fancy.

I enjoy writing. I write plays and poetry, though I have conceived and begun more works than I have produced. My mind seems to race ahead so fast that I cannot keep up. I speak secular humanism, liberalism (now called "progressive" for some reason — trying to escape a bad connotation, I suppose), futurism. My style seems to me prim and dense.

Somewhere in my character, once defined as what you do at home, alone, in the dark, are enmeshed these topics pertinent to my writing: ideology, skill, initiative, motivation, insight, style, imagination, persistence, epiphany, empiricism, science and definition, criticism, futurism, and humanism. Those constitute some of the tools in my character box and some of the categories of my awareness.

If you endure the root-canal procedure of this so-called "bloggerie", a lollipop awaits you in the outer office.

L - O - double-L - I, P - O - P spells "lollipop".
It's the only decent kind of candy.
The guy who made it must have been a dandy.
L - O - double-L - I, P - O - P you see!
It's a lick on a stick.
Two or three'll make you sick.
Lollipops for me!
